Finnish member of the European parliament was stabbed in stomach
Teuvo Hakkarainen, a Finnish politician and member of the European Parliament, was stabbed in stomach in Honduras. The incident took place on April 2021. The 61-year-old was attacked in the city of San Pedro Sula after a fierce dispute. His friends rushed him to the hospital.
Seiska got in touch with him the morning after the incident.
- I just got back from the hospital. The knife sank into my stomach, all the way to the handle, just below the navel. I have never been in so much pain before. The worst part was when they pulled the knife out. I was sure I was going to die, Hakkarainen comments.
Teuvo Hakkarainen spent one night in the hospital.
- I was given more blood. The pain was horrible.
The politician tells Seiska that the dispute begun when a dog attacked a lamb. The lamb belongs to Teuvo's friend. It died during the battle.
- I tried to save it. I killed the dog. After that the owner attacked me. He stabbed me in the stomach.
According to source close to Hakkarainen, alcohol played a part in the matter. Teuvo Hakkarainen has not reported a crime nor contacted the police.
He stayed in Honduras for several months during the COVID-19-crisis and is now safely back in Brussels.
Teuvo Hakkarainen is a member of Indentity and Democracy Group at the European Parliament. He was elected as the member of Parliament of Finland in 2011.
